Tinnitus

Tinnitus is a condition characterized by the perception of sound in the absence of any external sound source. People with tinnitus often experience a persistent ringing, buzzing, hissing, or whistling sound in their ears. While it is commonly referred to as "ringing in the ears," the actual sound experienced can vary from person to person.
A functional medicine workup for tinnitus includes an assessment of potential damage or injury to the ears, injury to the head/brain, the timeline and recovery from covid infection, vaccinations or both. Testing for high inflammation, metabolic syndrome, hormone imbalance or signs of oxidative stress is warranted.
Some interesting therapies that are used for tinnitus include in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), sound therapy and tinnitus retraining therapy (TRT).
Reduce the risk of developing this condition by always protecting your ears in areas with exceptionally loud noise. A diet high in antioxidant foods can help mitigate tinnitus that develops in times of acute stress.
